Macro

Macro Photography: My ongoing photographic passion since 2005.

Often I’m asked what a particular image is. In this one case, Identity isn’t my concern. Pieces of a watch, Coke on ice, a drop of dye in water–the lens magnifies these ordinary but tiny things to abstraction. Much like looking at clouds and seeing an image in the shapes, if you stare at the abstractions long enough you will see an image.

Until recently, I did all of my macro work on film, using a special combination of lenses, Kodak E200 slide film, and complex exposure calculations based on focal distance as measured in millimeters (very much a process of trial-and-error in the beginning). Because of rising prices, I’ve gone digital, and new tools necessitate a new methodology. The learning process begins again.
